C3H mice
were obtained in 1920 by Strong through hybridization of Bagg albino female mice and DBA male mice with high incidence of breast tumors, followed by inbreeding. C3H/He mice were introduced to the Institute of Laboratory Animal Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from Olac in 1985.
Features:
High incidence of breast cancer, with a natural occurrence rate of 85%-100% in female mice aged 6-10 months. Breast cancer is transmitted through milk rather than the placenta. The incidence of liver cancer in female mice aged 14 months is 85%.
High complement activity, low interferon production.
High incidence of diarrhea in young mice.
Sensitive to rabies virus.
Resistant to Bacillus anthracis.
